Diethylene Triamine Penta(methylene Phosphonic Acid) DTPMPA

Alternative names: Diethylene triamine penta(methylene phosphonic acid), DETPMP, Diethylenetriamine penta(methylene phosphonic acid)

Detailed introduction

Also known as: Diethylene triamine penta(methylene phosphonic acid), DETPMP, diethylenetriamine penta(methylene phosphonic acid)

CAS No.15827-60-8

Molecular formula: C₉H₂₈O₁₅N₃P₅

Relative molecular mass: 573.2

Structural formula

Performance and Applications:

DTPMPA is non‑toxic, readily soluble in acidic solutions, and exhibits excellent scale‑inhibition and corrosion‑inhibition performance with superior thermal stability. It effectively suppresses the formation of carbonate and sulfate scales, and its scale‑inhibition and corrosion‑inhibition efficacy under alkaline conditions and at elevated temperatures (above 210°C) surpasses that of other organic phosphonates. In water treatment, it serves as a scale‑inhibiting and corrosion‑inhibiting agent for circulating cooling water and boiler water; it is particularly well suited for use in alkaline circulating cooling systems as a scale‑and‑corrosion inhibitor without pH adjustment, and can also be employed as a scale‑and‑corrosion inhibitor in oilfield injection water, cooling water, and boiler water containing high concentrations of barium carbonate. When used alone in formulated formulations, this product requires no additional dispersant, yet still results in very low fouling deposition.

DTPMPA can also serve as a peroxide stabilizer—particularly effective in stabilizing hydrogen peroxide under high-temperature conditions—as a chelating agent for textile printing and dyeing, a pigment dispersant, an oxygen‑delignification stabilizer, a carrier for trace elements in fertilizers, and a concrete additive. In addition, it is widely used in papermaking, electroplating, metal pickling, and cosmetics, and can further function as a stabilizer for oxidative biocides.

Instructions for use:

DTPMPA is typically used as an antiscalant at concentrations of 1–30 mg/L and as a cleaning agent at concentrations of 1,000–2,000 mg/L; it is usually employed in combination with polycarboxylate‑based scale inhibitors and dispersants. When used in other industries, the dosage should be determined on the basis of experimental data.

Packaging and Storage:

DTPMPA is packaged in plastic drums, with each drum containing either 25 kg or 250 kg, or as specified by the customer. Store in a cool, indoor location; the shelf life is twelve months.

Security Protection:

HEDP is an acid; take appropriate personal protective measures during handling, and avoid contact with skin, eyes, etc. If contact occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
